King's College lies at the heart of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Its borders touch the community from the Saint Vincent DePaul soup kitchen to the Susquehanna River. It is part of King's mission to create students who not only learn how to make a living but how to live.

Becoming active members of any democratic society requires that each of us take an active part in the growth of that community. As part of King's outreach to the community the Shoval Center for Community Engagement and Learning was created. This center is not an actual building but rather a coordinated program at the heart of the campus and is designed for King's faculty and students to give through service to the community in which they live, study and work.

The Center hopes to expand programs and offer more services as the years progress.

In the words of Father Basi Moreau C.S.C., founding father of he congregation of Holy Cross "We shall always place education side-by-side with instrucion: the mind will not be cultivated at the expense of the heart while we prepare useful citizens for society..."

Fr. Basil Moreau, 1849
